Narcissa Katurah 'Narrie' Southern Cowley was born on 9 June, 1861 in Yalobusha County, Mississippi to James Thomas Southern Sr and Elmina Mayo Mason Southern. James Thomas died at the residence of a daughter in Oklahoma and was buried in the area of Denton, Texas. No resting place has been located to date. Elmina passed away in Yalobusha County, Mississippi.
She met and married William Spencer Cowley in Lockhart, Caldwell County, Texas on 2 October, 1884. To this union five children were born: Jessie Mayo Cowley Guthery (Bun); Sara Elizabeth 'Bessie' Cowley Randol (George); Ollie Leroy Cowley, born 11 July, 1881, in Grayson County, Texas, and died 14 June, 1893 in Texas, (possibly in Caldwell County. No burial records or location has been found on him.) Mabel Leona Cowley Hull (Melville); and Raymond Lee, who lived only seven years. 'Narrie' fell in her later years, broke a hip, and was bedridden the last few years of her life, being cared for by a grandson Robert Randol and his wife Ona. 'Narrie' was a loving person, especially with grandchilren.
