Olympic Games Gold Medalist Athlete. He competed in four cycling events for France in the inaugural Olympic Games, held in 1896 in Athens, Greece. He won the Gold Medal in the 100 kilometres race event, the Silver Medal in the 10 race kilometres, and the Bronze in the spring event. During World War I he joined the French Air Force, flying a number of missions and being wounded in the head in June 1916. He was killed in crash in January 1917 while training on a Sopwith biplane.
