Mr. Peters' obituary appeared in a Montgomery County newspaper, May 1925:
FATAL ACCIDENT
William Olin Peters Killed Instantly in Fall From Telephone Pole in Texas.
The Rhineland and McKittrick vicinities were shocked Thursday evening, Aug. 27, when the sad news came that William Olin Peters, son of W. F. Peters, and wife of McKittrick, was killed instantly in a fall from a telephone pole at 11:55 am that day.
The accident happened near Terrell, Texas, where the Youngman was employed as lineman with the American Telephone & Telegraph Company. It appears from reports that while he was working on a telephone pole on a signal circuit line he came in contact with a high voltage wire, which caused him to lose his hold and fall a distance of twenty feet to the ground. His neck was broken and also one leg fractured.
The body of the unfortunate young man was brought to McKittrick Saturday evening on No. 4, accompanied by H. J. John, a fellow worker. The body lay in state at the saddened home until Monday afternoon, when the funeral took place. Rev. Martin P. Schroedel officiated at the home and also at the Evangelical church near Rhineland. Burial took place in the Evangelical cemetery under the auspices of Rhineland Camp M. W. A., of which deceased was an honored member. McKittrick Camp M.W.A. also took part in the final rites at the grave. The unusually large attendance at the funeral attested to the high esteem in which the young man was held. His grave was a mound of beautiful floral pieces, tokens of love from his friends and loved ones.
Deceased was born on March 8, 1905, at Rhineland, and was the oldest child of W. F. Peters and wife. He reached the age of 20 years, 5 months and 19 days. (Obituary is courtesy of Marj Miller, Montgomery County Historical Society.)
