Esther was born about 1865 to John Gill and his wife Ann. She married John William Lowther and had several children, John William, Alfred Ernest, Lillie Ann Elizabeth, Emmie or Emily Elizabeth, Harold and Florence Daisy Lowther.

In the earlier part of the century, Esther and her son Alfred were undertakers. In the 1930's the family moved to Withernsea and moved back to Hull in 1942. During the 1940's she lived at the Pickering Park Lodge growing her own vegetables and took care of my father Colin during the summer when school was out. Her son Alfred was the head Park Keeper.

Her residence at the time of her death was 'The Lodge", Pickering Park.

She was buried January 22, 1946 at the age of 80. There is no gravestone (confirmed).
