Paul Anthony Abate, 82, of Ford City, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at his residence. He was born Dec. 2, 1926, in Kittanning, a son of the late Vincenzo and Mary (Porco) Abate. He was a lifelong resident of the community. He was a meat cutter for Giant Eagle, working in various stores around the area and retired in 1989. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army. He was a member of Christ Prince of Peace Church and the Ford City VFW. He was a history buff and was a wonderful caretaker for his wife. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Lois McGeary Abate; sons, Mark B. and Gloria J. Abate, of Greensburg, and Patrick V. Abate, of Spring, Texas; daughter, Paula M. and Joe Dunmire, of Kittanning; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Abate and Angela Tatarek; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Julia Tatarek; and a sister, Josephine Abate. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Adam, Neal and Ben Abate. Visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at MANTINI FUNERAL HOME. Parish Wake at 8:45 p.m. Thursday and prayer service at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Funeral service at 10 a.m. Friday at Christ Prince of Peace Church, Ford City, with Father Bryan Summers officiating. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery.
