He died while serving with US Forces in Afghanistan on Operation Enduring Freedom. The vehicle he was travelling in lost control and rolled over during a night patrol near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

Aged 25. He was originally from the Big River Cree First Nation, approximately 190 km north of Saskatoon, near Victoire, Saskatchewan. Described as a compassionate man with a good sense of humor, he was respected as a great role model for his community.

Sgt Morin was said to have enlisted in the US Army because of his admiration of its advanced technology. He was stationed for four years at Fort Eustis, VA, before being transferred to Fort Drum, NY in April 2008. He served two tours in Iraq and was on his third tour in Afghanistan. In December 2008 the nuclear, biological, and chemical specialist was deployed to the Charkh district in Logar province. While at the base, he served as the unofficial barber, keeping fellow soldiers' hair cut to military standards.

Sgt Morin is survived by his wife Veronica and their two young sons, parents and large extended family. Dignified Transfer ceremony was held August 24, 2009 at Dover AFB. The funeral was held on September 1, 2009 at the Se-Se-Wa-Hum High School on the Big River First Nation. The service was attended by US military personnel including Sgt John Romme, who had been Sgt Morin's immediate superior. Hundreds of family, friends and other mourners walked and drove behind a horse-drawn carriage carrying the casket to the cemetery.

His close friend, Pte Kyle Whitehead was killed on the same date in a motor vehicle accident back home.
