Martha was the daughter of Rosie and Jim Summers. She was part of a large blended family and grew up in Arkansas as next to the youngest of 16 children. Her siblings are as follows:

She met Evert E. Roberts as a teen and they soon married. Together they raised 4 children, and later also raised two granddaughters.

Martha loved being a homemaker. She was an immaculate housekeeper. For years she pressed her husband's shirts, handkerchiefs, and their linens. She was an excellent cook, and was well known for her Spanish Goulash, breads, and pies. She canned and preserved many things from the garden. As a young woman, she loved to go on hunting trips with her husband and her friends. Every summer, for years, Martha ran the kitchen for a week at the Pine Acres Youth Camp. She was a "hands on" manager of the kitchen. She didn't just want to sit back and watch; she had to be in the middle of all the cooking. At any church supper or potluck, she'd be found working, from preparing the food to cleaning up the dishes when it was all over. She was also an avid Cubs baseball fan.

Martha was well known for her gift of song. She had a deep, low Alto voice and sang solos, in groups and with the church choir. She not only sang, but over the years wrote several worship songs and choruses. Anyone who spent time in her home has had the experience of hearing her break out in song while cooking, cleaning, or whatever the task. She played guitar and organ. For years, her pride and joy was her blonde electric Fender Guitar. She used to thrill her grandchildren with her yodeling. She had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh.

Martha took joy in little things. If a grandchild brought her a handful of flowers they'd just picked from her garden, she'd get out a pretty vase and display them proudly.

As the wife of a minister, Martha took her spiritual life very seriously. She spent time in prayer and the reading of the Word. She was also ordained into the ministry. She had a deep, abiding faith that carried her through the many storms life brought to her.

In 2007, Martha went to live at Grace Assisted Living. Staff members and Hospice workers shared how she touched their lives with her sense of humor and her habit of breaking into song. Even with her health and memory fading, Martha continued to bless the lives of people she met. She left a beautiful legacy of faith and love.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Evert; her son, Bobby Eugene Roberts; three grandchildren; and all of her siblings. She was survived by three of her children, many grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
