Tom was a beloved member of the Roberts family, though he wasn't a Roberts by blood. Here is part of his story:

Tom was the tiniest baby and grew into such a loving, laughing, happy child. He loved singing, swimming, and watching John Wayne movies and TV comedians.

Tom attended Meridian schools, and went for one year to Boise State University. He made his living as a cook. He began at the Royal Restaurant, later working for the Stagecoach Inn, plus working the Nike Tour at Hillcrest Country Club. Along with a variety of jobs, Tom also completed a tour of duty in the National Guard.

Tom is best remembered for his laughter and his love for friends and family. It gave him great pleasure to give gifts to the people he loved. He loved celebrating holidays, especially Christmas. He got a lot of enjoyment from books, music, camping, and just spending time with family and friends. He loved all animals, especially his three dogs. He will be particularly missed by his many nephews and nieces whom he adored.

Tom wrote the following as a message he received from God. It was written in July of 2000.

"You must remember that what happens to us in the past is what makes us how we are now. (God says) So come to me, and let me take your pain from your heart, and feel the love and tenderness of my love and care."

The memorial service was on Saturday, August 12th at Meridian Gospel Tabernacle, 1507 N. Meridian Road, Meridian, Idaho. Portions of the service, and the music, was provided by Tom's siblings, Bryan Thomason, Anita Roberts Jahner, and Lana Roberts. Following cremation, Tom's ashes were kept in a place of honor, first in his mother's home, and then for a time in his brother Bryan's home. After his mother's passing, his ashes were buried with her at Meridian Cemetery, in honor of her wishes.

An obituary was originally published in the Idaho Statesman and was written by his mother and his siblings, Anita, Lana, and Bryan. This excerpt was edited by his sister, and is used with her permission.

NOTE: Tom was not the son of Bobby Roberts, Leah's first husband, or of her second husband either, as some online family trees are showing. Tom's birth father was not listed in the obituary, per his father's request.
