Walter Monroe Anderson

Walter Monroe Anderson (89) passed away on October 13, 2017 in Nampa, Idaho. Walter was born to Walter Emanuel Anderson and Harriet Edith Anderson in Chicago, Illinois on May 10, 1928. His sister Gayle arrived in August 1933. Walter graduated from Morgan Park military academy in Chicago Illinois. He later attended Colorado A and M college in Fort Collins, Colorado. Walter was drafted by the US Army before he finished college and stationed in Fort Ord in California and Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. While in Texas he met the love of his life, Margaret Allyn Martin Huffman. The couple was married on June 4, 1956 in Basel, Switzerland, 61 and ½ years ago. The second ceremony was in the Methodist church in Wiesbaden Germany. Wally and Margaret loved to travel and started by honeymooning immediately and traveled to Basel, Switzerland, Venice, Italy, Lido, Rome, Florence, Naples, Pompeii, Barcelona, Spain, Majorca, Mediterranean Sea, Ibiza, just to name a few. They were blessed to experience the cultures, food and scenery. After honeymooning they returned to Germany where Walter was stationed for 2 years. Together they raised children Ronald and Duane. In addition to the boys, a baby girl expired before birth. Wally had worked for West Coast fabrics before being drafted and returned to employment with them upon returning to the United States. Walter found a career path beginning with a job at Carpet Wholesalers that led the couple to start a business of their own in the carpet industry in Idaho. The business was successful and moved on to California and Washington. The hard work was rewarded with more travels to Thailand, Singapore, Japan, Guam, Australia, New Zealand, and a few more. Walter and Margaret collected from all over the world and lived life to the fullest. They resided in Boise, Emmett and a summer home in San Felipe, Mexico and good friends were made at each location. Walter enjoyed snowmobiles in his earlier years and took to raising sheep after retirement.

Walter is preceded in death by his parents and sister, both sons and a daughter. He is survived by his wife Margaret; grandsons, Paul Anderson, Erik (Jenna) Anderson and Corby (Danielle) Anderson; great grandchildren Rachel and Peyton and a niece Karen (Brett) Wallace.

A service will be held at Summers Funeral Home, Ustick Chapel on Monday, October 23. The viewing will be at 9 am, service at 10 am, and a graveside service in Meridian Cemetery to follow.
