Douglas Albert Pederson was born November 20, 1945 in Winner, South Dakota , the son of lifelong residents Albert and Vernice Pederson of Winner. He died August 13, 2009 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Doug grew up on the family farm just west of Winner and graduated from Winner High School in 1963. He attended South Dakota State University and Black Hills State College. He participated in rodeo during and after his college years as a steer wrestler and team roper.
Always a man with a good eye for cattle and horses, Doug worked on ranches near Millboro, Midland and Bonesteel before becoming a brand inspector with the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association, a position he held for nearly twenty years.
During this time, Doug ranched, raising cattle and horses and eventually moved back to his familys home place west of Winner. At the time of his death, he was also employed by the Winner Livestock Auction Company.
Doug was preceded in death by his father Albert. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Vernice Pederson of Winner; two sisters Brenda Mahoney (Darrell) of Yankton, Linda Roberts (Tom) of Sioux Falls, two brothers; Kevin Pederson (Lori) of Scottsdale, Arizona and Clay Pederson of Parker, Colorado, 12 nieces and nephews, 4 great nephews.
Doug was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, was a lover of all things Western and the outdoors, especially cattle, horses and rodeo.
Dougs family and his friends will greatly miss his big smile, his great humor and his constant concern for those around him.

WINNER - Douglas Pederson, 63, Winner, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. CDT, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Tuesday, Aug. 18 at Immaculate Conception Church in Winner. Services will be at 10 a.m. CDT Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the church. Burial will be at Winner Cemetery. Mason Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
