Barton Abstein Sr., 87, a salesman for Eli Witt and Livingston Provision Co., died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004. The service will be at 11 a.m. EDT today at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1700 N. Meridian Road, with burial at Culley's MeadowWood Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1700 N. Meridian Road, Tallahassee, FL 32303 or Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308. Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Riggins Road Chapel (850-877-8191) is handling arrangements. He was born Sept. 15, 1916, to William Robert and Blanche Coleman Abstein, in Lochloosa. He attended Leon High School, where he played football and baseball. He was married to Lillie Mae Tully Abstein for 62 years, before her death in 1999. He was a lifetime member of the Moose and a charter member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Barton was a World War II veteran, having served in the South Pacific and Okinawa.


He is survived by a son, Bart Abstein Jr. of Atlanta; two daughters, Lillian Abstein Reese (and husband Andy) and Nancy Abstein Buzzett (and husband Rex) of Port St. Joe; his grandchildren, Bart Abstein III (and wife Megan) of Atlanta, Jack Abstein of Jacksonville, Ellen Reese Potts (and husband Robert) of Tallahassee, Brian Reese (and wife Jennifer) of Monticello, Brad Buzzett (and wife JoAnne) of Tampa and Amy Buzzett of Atlanta; his great-grandchildren, Lillie Catherine Potts of Tallahassee and Wyatt Reese of Monticello; and a sister, Eleanor Kern of Miami.
