Nellie, was born in a log cabin, to a Methodist Minister Lorenzo Dow Sole and Nancy Charlotte Desnoyer Sole. She married William Montgomery on Feb 15, 1897, in Pontiac, Oakland County, Michigan. She raised 3 children Grace, Hugh and William.
Nellie was always very adventerous. In 1927 they travelled with friends the "Dahl's" to the upper peninsula in their 1926 Studebaker. Details of this vacation are recorded in a lovely travel diary, written by Mrs Dahl. Nellie and William, traveled across county roads, to California prior to the Interstate Highways being built. While on this trip they celebrated their 50th anniversary. She was a wonderful Grandma to many, and every Good Friday she made Hot Cross Buns, and had enough for all who came to visit.
She always enjoyed different modes of transportation, and never turned down an adventure. During her life, she was known to have rode a helicopter, hot air balloon, submarine and a snowmobile when she was in her 90's.
She was a resident of Waterford Township, Michigan for more than 70 years, farming and raising hogs and berries on a small farm on Elizabeth Lake Road, across from Crescent Lake.
Nellie lived to age 101, she attributes her long and healthy life to drinking HOT water, never tea, coffee or milk. Nellie was a dedicated wife, Mother and Grandma.
