Oscar Thomas Palmer, 61, a 28 year resident of Port Neches passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009 at his home as the result of an 18 month long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, at Adams EE Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at Trout Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time at the funeral home chapel. The youngest child of Oscar T Palmer. and Minnie Palmer, Oscar was a native of Port Arthur and a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and Lamar Institute of Technology. He served his country during the Viet Nam War as a member of the U.S. Navy Seabees and was a loyal member of Central Baptist Church in Port Neches. Oscar was the owner / operator of Texas Automotive and Equipment in Port Arthur nearly 30 years and also was employed by R & R Marine and Stewart & Stevenson Services. He was preceded in death by is wife of 31 years, Bettye, his parents and a brother-in-law, John B. Snell. Survivors include three sisters, Thelma (Elias) Villarreal of Nederland; Iva Snell of Call and Margaret Craven of Midland; a stepson and business associate, Claude Jackson of Port Neches and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Oscar's family would like to thank the Doctors, nurses and staff of the Cancer Center of Southeast Texas and to Sharon Lowery, RN and Pam Thomas of Odyssey Health Care for the kindness shown to Oscar during his illness.
