Funeral services for Brenda Carol Avant, 57, of Batesville, were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, in Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley. Miss Avant died on Feb. 26, 2011, at the Tri-Lakes Medical Center. She was born on May 15, 1953, in Quitman County to the late Joseph Alton and Mary Ellen Davis Avant. Miss Avant was a member of Campground Baptist Church in Water Valley. She participated in the Special Olympics in Columbus, Miss., every year and she won fourth place in tennis at a national competition in Connecticut.

In addition to her parents, preceding Miss Avant in death are four sisters, Mary Lorene Avant, Joyce Irene Avant, Beverly Avant Davis and Betty Jo Coleman; and a brother, James Avant.

Surviving Miss Avant are six sisters, Patrecea Cade of Water Valley, Tommie Inez Foster of Greenwood, Ind., Nina Quay Pindelton of Franklin, Ind., Jeraldine Riley of Groverton, Texas, Patricia Ann Waldo of Greenwood, Ind., and Linda Richards of Hallsville, Texas; two brothers, Billy Leon Avant and Clinton Wayne Avant, both of Water Valley; 27 nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.
