Dorothy Jenkins was born October 8, 1928, the nineth child of George Washington and Ella Mary (Sanders) Jenkins.

Dorothy married Joseph Hampton Ambrose.

Dorothy Jenkins Ambrose, 70 of Lyells, died Friday April 30, 1999. She was the widow of Joseph Hampton "Joe" Ambrose, and a member of Menokin Baptist Church. She was a homemaker. Survivors are two sons, Joseph Ambrose of Supply and William Ambrose of Newland; two daughters, Doris Mae King and Mary Ann Headley, both of Lyells; two brothers, Stuart Jenkins of Lyells, and Edward Jenkins of Tappahannock; two sisters, Sadie Mae Jenkins of Richmond and Elizabeth Jenkins of Newland; seven grandchildren, Chris, Patrick and Jeff Ambrose, Joey and Kevin King, Robert Childs and Michael Headley.
Services were held May 3, 1999, at Menokin Baptist Church, with Reverends Wanda Burton Crutchfield, Dwight Buchholz and Jeff Riddle officiating. Interment was in Menokin Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Wayne Self, Jimmy Oliff, Durwood O'Bier, William Hinson, Chuck Bunch and Wesley Ambrose.
