Elijah H. Bell grew up and lived most of his life in Georgia. He was never a wealthy man and the War Between the States hit him and his family very hard. Although he was fairly old at the time, he served in the GA militia (some say he was a Captain) during the war. After the war, he moved to Marshall Co. MS, where he died in 1875. His widow, Martha, moved back to Douglas Co. GA.
