Services for James Albert Ables, 98, of Groveton, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Groveton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rex Carleton and Bro. Bailey officiating. Interment will be at Glenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Ables died Thursday evening in the Groveton Nursing Home. He was a 69 year resident of Groveton and was formerly of Mineola. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Mineola.

Mr. Ables was formerly employed by Trinity County Lumber Co. until it closed Dec. 31, 1930. He was also a night watchman for Barton's Sawmill for a number of years and was a member of the CCC.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Jane, in 1972 and his eldest daughter, Sozola Mae Valenta, of Hammona, Indiana.

Survivors: three sons, James Calvin of Marquez, Warren and Robert of Houston; five daughters, Mrs. Bernice Stevenson of Groveton, Mrs. Bonnie King of Houston, Mrs. Dimple Deaton of Groveton, Mrs. Emma Mae Stewart of Santa Monica, Calif. and Mrs. Shirley Wallace of Beaumont; 22 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; a number of great-great-grandchildren.
