Marty, 68, of Van Buren, IN, died Thursday, July 30, 2009, at 10:55 a.m. at Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie.
Mr. Collins served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1964 and served on the USS Essex. He played in various bands.
He was born April 5, 1941, in Van Buren to Nelson and Leah E. (Nusbaumer) Collins. He married Christine Creggor on Aug. 27, 1976. His wife preceded him in death on Dec. 29, 2006.
Survivors include two brothers, Bennis (Alice) Collins, of Fairmount, and Michael (Charlotte) Collins, of Marion; three sisters, Emily Cole and Elizabeth Millican, both of Marion, and Mildred Isreal, of Muncie; three stepdaughters, Oma (Mark) Shuttleworth, of Van Buren; Mona (Ben) Cash, of Fairmount; and Vicki (Gene) Roush, of Warren; two stepsons, Timothy (Denise) Cameron and Christopher Cameron, both of Warren; and several stepgrandchildren.
A companion, Betty Fuller, also survives.
Calling is Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ferguson & Glancy Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Van Buren. A service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Aug 6, 2009, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Mary Ann Freeman officiating. Interment will be at Grove Cemetery in Poneto, with military rites by the United States Navy.
Memorial gifts may be made to the funeral expense fund in care of the funeral home.
