Revolution War Years

"he was only 14-15 when he assisted his father, Joseph in/around the Chesapeake Bay where they lived. They delivered supplies and mail to the soldiers. " "Joseph died 2 years after the on-set of the War."

According to The Remembrance Story of George H SR. "as told to his grandson,
AND the Court Declaration for Pension

After his father, Joseph died there was an Administration Sale, and the young Puntenney's moved to Braddocks old battle field (12 miles from Ft. Duquesno) They cleared the land. And afterward the family scattered out.

George Sr. became a Scout on the frontier until the close of the war. After that George met up with a man named Tate, or Tait and they established a Trading Post on Big River and traded with the Delaware Indians. George's part was the transportation of their goods by pack horse from Pittsburgh to Cleveland, Ohio, at this time called Guyahoga. On one of these trips one of the pack horses ran down a hill at a large creek and fell and broke her neck. After that the creek was known as "Break Neck Creek" Also on one of his trips through Pittsburgh he met an Irish girl whom he called Peggy. They fell hopelessly in love and married."
Married life in Wheeling, West Virginia.

1788--George H. Sr. married Margaret "Peggy" Hamilton, In Allegheny, Ft. Pitts, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (this is in my notes but the source is not named) They began their married life in a block house in Wheeling. Their first son William H. Puntenney was born there and also Aunt Sarah (Russel).
Life in Hingaton Creek, Bourbon County, Kentucky

3 more children were born-- Mary (Aunt Polly), Joseph and George H. Jr. was born 1797-1799. While there Peggy learned the art of "bleeding" and other home remedy skills.
Opposed to Slavery

G-g-g grampa George SR. had always been opposed to slavery, his sojourn in Kentucky thoroughly disgusted him, so he pulled up stakes and moved the family to Puntenney's Fork of Stout's Run in Adams County, Ohio about March 1800. 1st September 1800 James Puntenney was born. He was the second white child to be born in Green Township, Adams County, Ohio. (Obediah Stout was the first)
Ohio/Underground Railroad

"Several of the Puntenney families used their homes as STATIONS in the Underground Railroad". Their farms were in Rome, which is located right along the river between Kentucky and Ohio. The county court has numerous pages of the Puntenney's, the Stout's and the Truitt families pulling people out of the river, some alive but some did not make it alive.
