Gilbert Paul CARRINGTON was born on 19 AUG 1815 in Cumberland County, Virginia to Benjamin Mosby & Mary Anne (Cabell) CARRINGTON. He studied at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, becoming a lawyer.

On 7 APR 1841, twenty-five year old Gilbert married fourteen-year old Sarah Elizabeth JONES, the daughter of Powhatan & Sidney Frances (Rodes) JONES.

Their marriage was announced in the Richmond Whig, Tuesday, April 20, 1841 edition, page 1: MARRIED, At Clermont, on Wednesday Evening, the 7th of April, by the Rev. Mr. Kinkle of the Episcopal Church, Mr. GILBERT P. CARRINGTON of Cartersville, Cumberland County, to Miss S. ELIZABETH, daughter of Powhatan Jones, Esq'r, of Buckingham county."

They had five children together:
1) Mary Cabell "Mollie CARRINGTON (1843-1884)
2) Walter Scott CARRINGTON (1845-1893)
3) Virginia Rosalie "Jennie" CARRINGTON (1848-1931)
4) Gilbert Marion CARRINGTON (1851-1853)
5) Eugene Jones CARRINGTON (1855-1900)

On January 4th, 1844, as decreed by a Cumberland County court, Gilbert was forced to auction off his property (Dwelling House_4 rooms, Grist & Saw Mill & 181 acres of land). Gilbert had been sued by his brother-in-law in Nathanial R. POWELL vs Gilbert Paul CARRINGTON.

Around 27 DEC 1847, Gilbert relocated his family to Senatobia, DeSoto county, Mississippi. Per deposition testimony in a MS Court case (Buchanan vs Manning) . . . "Thirty-three years the 27th of December, 1880. I came here from Virginia, my native State."

Sarah died within a month of her final child's birth, in 1855. It is unknown where Sarah was buried (possibly on family land).

Now a widower with four children under the age of 13, Gilbert remarried twenty-eight year old Tyresa P. BROWN, the daughter of Gillis BROWN. Gilbert & Tyresa had three children together:
6) Charles Alexander CARRINGTON (1858-1877)
7) Florence Agnes CARRINGTON (1863-1938)
8) Ida Benzillar "Bennie" CARRINGTON (1864-1936)

Gilbert served in Blythe's Battalion, Company A, of the Mississippi CSA in the Civil War conflict of 1861 - 1865. He supposedly fought the entire war without injury. His last two children were born during the war.

From 1873 - 1881, Gilbert served as a member of the Mississippi Legislature.

In 1877, Gilbert lost both is twenty-year-old son, Charles on April 6th and his wife, Tyresa on November 8th. It is unknown where he buried these loved ones. The news clippings of their deaths were found in Gilbert's personal family bible.
