Colley Edward "Ed" Gidney, Jr., 71, of Lake Charles died Friday, July 31, 2009 in the comfort of his home. Mr. Gidney was born and raised in Merryville, LA and was a graduate of Merryville High School. He has lived over 40 years in Lake Charles. Mr. Gidney proudly served the United States Army. Mr. Gidney worked his younger years as a chef and restaurant manager. He retired after 33 years of service as a Maintance Operator with Lake Charles Carbon/ Alcoa. Mr. Gidney enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, home improvement projects, tending to his land and cooking. He found special interest in visiting the elderly and the sick, bringing special treats and gifts to those who did not have family. He will be most remembered for his generosity, compassion and humanity for his fellow man. He leaves to honor his memory, two brothers, Max Burks and wife, Jewell of Iowa and William H. Gidney and wife Edna of Westville, IN; three sisters, Dorothy Richmond and husband Harvey of DeRidder, Shirley Simmons and husband Marvin of Iowa and Peggy Garrison and husband William of Lake Charles and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Colley E. Gidney, Sr. and Versie Lanier Gidney and a sister, Dicie Burks. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Monday, August 3, 2009 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Don Barrett will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Sunday will be from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue Monday from 8:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
