ALMA BEVIS

Mrs. Alma Bevis, age 86, of 1976 Northwest Blvd., Columbus, O. Sunday following a short illness. Mrs. Bevis was an educator and author.

She was born in Cincinnati, O., February 4, 1888, daughter of William C. and Rose E. Darst Murry.

Mrs. Bevis was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, 1909. Post Graduate work at Radcliffe College and the University of Mexico.

She was a member of the following organizations, The American Association of University Women, League of Women Voters, Foreign Policy Association, Ohioana Librarian Association of which she was President from 1952 until 1955, National League American Pen Women, Ohio Mental Health Association, National Society of Arts & Letters, Ohio State University Alumni Association, P.E.O. Sisterhood, Methodist Women's Society of Christian Service, University Women's Club, Ohio State Faculty Women's Club, LasBuenos Vecinas Club. Mrs. Bevis was author of "Diets and Riots," an interpretation of the History of Harvard.

She married the late Dr. Howard L. Bevis, June 30, 1914, who was President of Ohio State University from 1940 until 1956.

She is survived by her son, Murray Bevis of Long Beach, Calif., two grandchildren, Allan J. Bevis and Rita G. Bevis of Columbus, and a sister Willa Breland of Gallipolis, O.

Memorial services will be held at the King Avenue United Methodist Church, Columbus, O., Wednesday, June 12th at 11 a.m. where family will receive friends from 10 until 11.
