DUNCAN, OK — Louise Griggs Johnston

Jan. 18, 1919 — July 3, 2009

Louise Griggs Johnston, 90, of Duncan, passed away July 3, 2009, in Country Club Care Center in Duncan.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church, 901 Ash, with the Rev. Clif Cummings officiating and Dr. Gary Armstrong assisting. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens under direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.

Louise was born Jan. 18, 1919, in Little Rock, Ark. She was the second of five children born to Gordon And Ethel Pine England. Louise married Louis A. Griggs on June 10, 1939. After Louis died June 28, 1977, Louise married Carroll Johnston on May 19, 1979, and he preceded her in death Oct. 30, 2007.

Louise has been an active member of First Baptist Church since 1939. She sang in the choir for over 50 years and taught a Sunday School class for teenage girls for many years. Louise volunteered at Duncan Regional Hospital, and was a member of the Four Leaf Clover Study Club. She worked, many years, for the Duncan Election Board.

Louise, fondly known as "Gran" by her family, is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Tom Armstrong of Dallas, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Louis Allen and Diana Griggs of Flint, Mich.; step-daughter, Patricia Lumkin of Atlanta, Ga.; six grandchildren: Dr. Gary Armstrong, David Armstrong, Kevin Armstrong, Andrea Griggs, Aric Griggs, Misty Trapp: and 10 great-grandchildren.

Louise was preceded in death by her two husbands; her parents; a sister, Helen Finley; and three brothers: Richard, Frankie and Harold England.

Bearers will be Dr. Gary Armstrong, Kevin Armstrong, Michael Armstrong, Paul Armstrong, Aric Griggs and David Moore.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today in the funeral home with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
