JERALD WAS BORN IN SHERMAN, TX ON MARCH 25, 1924 AND THE FAMILY MOVED TO TULSA, OK, WHERE HE LOVED HIS CHILDHOOD AND WAS A GRADUATE OF CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL.

HE ENLISTED IN THE ARMY AIR FORCE DURING WWII ON NOV. 23, 1942 AND SERVED AS A COMBAT OFFICER WITH THE 8TH AIR FORCE, 2ND AIR DIVISION, 458TH BOMB GROUP AND IN BATTLES INCLUDING NORMANDY, SOUTH FRANCE AND RHINELAND. HE WAS AWARDED THE AIR MEDAL WITH 4 OAK LEAF CLUSTERS AND RECEIVED A STAR FOR EACH BATTLE.

HE ATTENDED THE UNIVERSITY OF TULSA RECEIVING HIS B.S. DEGREE IN 1948 AND IN 1952, RECEIVED HIS M.D. DEGREE FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA. HE MOVED TO AUSTIN WHERE HE WAS IN ACTIVE PRACTICE FOR 51 YEARS. HE LOVED PRACTICING MEDICINE AND LOVED ALL HIS DEVOTED PATIENTS. BEFORE RETIRING IN 2002, HE HAD DELIVERED OVER 2500 BABIES, WHICH WAS A DELIGHT FOR HIM. HE WAS BAPTIZED AND CONFIRMED AT ST. PAUL'S LUTHERAN CHURCH IN 1960, WHERE HE REMAINED AN ACTIVE MEMBER. HE WAS ACTIVE IN THE TRAVIS COUNTY MEDICAL SOCIETY, TEXAS MEDICAL ASSOCIATION, AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION AS WELL AS A LIFE MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF FAMILY PRACTICE. FOR 28 YEARS (1967-1995), DOC VOLUNTEERED AS THE TEAM PHYSICIAN FOR REAGAN HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM AND WAS ON THE SIDELINES FOR 360 GAMES. HIS SON SCOTTY PLAYED ON THE 1970 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL TEAM. HE WAS GREATLY THRILLED WHEN HE WAS ELECTED TO THE AUSTIN SPORTS HALL OF FAME. DOC TREASURED HIM MANY FRIENDS AND LOVED HIS SATURDAY MORNING BREAKFAST GROUP, "THE POWER OUTLAW GROUP" AS HE REFERRED AND FOR OVER 45 YEARS THEY MET WEEKLY TO SHARE STORIES AND JOKES, BUT MAINLY TO TALK ABOUT SPORTS. HE HAD A SPECIAL LOVE FOR HIS DEVOTED NURSES DARLENE AND ANN. DOC IS SURVIVED BY HIS "SWEET ANGEL" AND WIFE JOY; SONS JERRY AND WIFE KATHLEEN, MIKE AND WIFE CECIL AND SANDY AND HIS WIFE RITA AND TRUDA WIFE OF HIS HIS BELOVED SON SCOTTY WHO PRECEDED HIM IN DEATH ON FEBRUARY 25, 2008. GRANDCHILDREN: BRITTANY, SARAH, ANDREW, AUDREY, SHANNON AND HUSBAND TIM AND NINA AND GREAT-GRANDSONS, LOGAN AND JOSEPH. HE WAS ALSO PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS PARENTS, HALLIE RAE "LINK" AND HOWARD BLUFORD SENTER.

Jerald Raydell Senter, M.D. (known as "Doc" to all) peacefully left this earth to meet His Lord and Savior on Friday, October 31, surrounded by his loving family. Born March 25, 1924 in Sherman, Texas, his family moved shortly thereafter to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he loved his childhood and graduated from Tulsa Central High School (which at that time was the 3rd largest in the nation). After graduating, he worked for a short time at Standlin Oil and Pipe Co. before enlisting with the Army Air Force during World War II. He served as a combat officer with the 8th Air Force, 2nd Air Division, 458th Bomb Group, and 754th Bomb Squadron in England and was involved in several battles including Normandy, South France, and Rhineland. He was awarded the Air Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters and received a star for each battle. After receiving an honorable discharge, he attended the University of Tulsa and received his B.S. degree in 1948. In 1952, he received his M.D. degree from the University of Oklahoma and moved to Austin. His private medical practice in Austin was active 51 years, before he retired in 2002. He loved practicing medicine and he loved all of his devoted patients. Delivering over 2500 babies was a real delight for him. Baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in 1960, Doc remained an active member. He was also an active member of the Travis Country Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association, and was a life member of the American Academy of Family Practice. For 28 years (1967-1995), Doc volunteered as the team physician for the Reagan High School football team and was on the sidelines during 360 games. He valued these years greatly and was thrilled to have been elected to the Austin Sports Hall of Fame. Doc treasured his many loyal friends and he especially loved his Saturday Morning Breakfast Group, which he referred to as "The Power Outlaw Group". For over 45 years they met weekly to share stories and jokes, but talked mainly about sports. He had a special place in his heart for the late "Big John" Joseph and his family, namely Margie, Salem, Sonny, and of course, Billie Martin. He also had a special love for his devoted and long time nurses, Darlene and Ann. Doc is survived by his "sweet angel" and wife, Joy; sons Jerry, Mike and Sandy; daughters-in-law, Kathleen, Cecelia, Rita, and Truda; grandchildren, Brittany, Sarah, Andrew, Audrey, Shannon (and husband Tim), and Nina; and great-grandsons, Logan and Joseph. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hallie and Howard Senter, and his beloved son, Scotty Senter. The family wishes to thank the following for their love and devotion: Drs. Bill McCarron, Michael Shapiro, Jack Moncrief, and David Morledge, and family friend, Chris Joseph. Pallbearers are Jerry Senter, Mike Senter, Sandy Senter, Scotty Senter (in spirit), Andrew Senter, Rick Coleman, Cater "Sonny" Joseph, and Salem Joseph. Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. John Frasher, Wally Freytag, Dr. Earl Grant, Dick Matz, Roy "Fast Break" McArthur, Gene McGreggor, Doug Milligan, Obie Moore, Rod Roberts, Bud Shrake, Dr. B. J. Smith, James Street, and Carl Voelkel. In lieu of flowers, Doc requested any donations be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 3501 Red River, Austin, Texas 78705 or a charity of your choice. The family will receive visitors at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 3. A private burial will be held followed by a celebration of Doc's life at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 3501 Red River, at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 4.
