Civil War Union soldier; Company E, First Minnesota Infantry. He was born in New Brunswick, Canada, but spent his boyhood years in Maine. He moved to Minnesota and at the age of 19 enlisted to fight in the Civil War. He was mustered into Company E on May 23, 1861.

During the famous charge of the First Minnesota at Gettysburg on July 2, 1863, he was wounded in the right shoulder. On July 10, he was admitted to the Army Hospital at Newark, New Jersey. In December of 1863, he was sent to the Army Convalescent Camp at Fort Wood, located on Bedloe's Island in the New York harbor. He returned to duty just five days later, on Dec. 10, 1863. He was mustered out on May 3, 1864.

Later that month, on May 30, 1864, he enlisted in the 2nd Minnesota Infantry. He was appointed a Corporal and placed in Company C. He had enlisted from Langola in Benton County. He participated in the battles at Missionary Ridge, Chickamauga and Atlanta during Sherman's march to the sea. On September 1, 1864, he was wounded during the Battle of Jonesboro in Georgia. He was mustered out of the service at Louisville, Kentucky on July 11, 1865.

There were five Adams brothers who served during the war. Nineteen-year old George Adams was the younger brother of Daniel Adams, who was 21. When they enlisted, both listed their address as "the Platt River" in Morrison County. A third brother, David, served in the 1st Battalion of Minnesota Infantry from March 8, 1865, to July 14, 1865. He was 25 when he enlisted and would have been about the same age as Daniel. The other two brothers are unknown to the writer at this time.

When he returned from the war, he settled down to a peaceful life as a farmer. He married Ellen R. [maiden name unknown]. They had one child, a daughter. He applied for a pension (#158,869) and received a pension of $8 a month because of the total disability of his right arm. According to the 1880 U. S. Census, he was living in Little Falls, Minn.

He died in Royalton, Minn. on Saturday, Jan. 23, 1892, at the age of 48. He is buried at the Riverside Cemetery in Royalton, Lot 561 Grave 1. His brother Daniel is buried in Grave 3 of the same family plot. Their brother David is buried in Grave 4.
