The service was held on Friday, May 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church

Rose Carol Shumate, 71, Stone Cove Drive, died Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at her son's home. She was born July 12, 1937 in Paris, daughter of Carrie Spivey Shumate, Paris, and the late Clifford Theodore Shumate, a graduate of Paris High School, and was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Rose Carol is also survived by a son, Jeffrey Thomas (Victoria) Myers, Bourbon County; three grandchildren, Ian Michael Myers, Atlanta, GA, Joshua Taylor Myers, Fort Walton Beach, FL, Stephanie Michelle Abney, Seattle, WA; and three great grandchildren, Jacob Bradley Vainio, Ava Myers, and Alexis Myers. She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Anthony Myers; and a brother, C. Wayne Shumate. Carol was like the seasons spring, summer, and fall. She was a gardener and had a green thumb. She loved design and beautiful things, but above all, Carol loved remembering family and friends on their birthday and holidays just to let them know how much she loved them. She had moved back to her hometown of Paris to care for her elderly mother and after a long battle with cancer, she died peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones who will remember her forever and miss her so very much. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 22, at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) by Rev. Jeff Bell with burial in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Casket bearers will be Joshua Taylor Myers, Ian Michael Myers, Billy Williams, Cliff Shumate, Don McCarty, and Ronald Dean Reid. Honorary bearers will be Dan Short and Charles Edward Watson. Visitation will be after 9:00 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass or First Christian Church Music Department.
