Martin Green was born in 1794 in New York City. He was five foot ten inches tall and had hazel eyes and a rudy complexion. In August of 1812 he enlisted in Harrison County, Kentucky and served in the was of 1812 with Captain David Holt's 17th regiment. He was discharged at Rock Island, Illinois, in August of 1818. On January 19th of 1823, in Madison County, Illinois, by Enoch Long, he married Elizabeth Lewis, born in Kentucky, in 1807. They moved to Missouri between 1829 and 1832. They had at least 8 children; John Lewis, Emiline, Mary, Frances, David Franklin, Washburn ( William Washington), Joann, Henry Thomas, and maybe Martin and Milton. Martin Green attended the first reunion of the veterans of the war of 1812. It was held at the Hale Hotel, in Moberly, Missouri, in October of 1870. He was 74. The men told stories and remembered times and friends gone by. Martin Green died on July 26, 1874, and is buried at Fairview Cemetery near Clark, Missouri.

Elizabeth applied for a pension in Boone County, Missouri, in 1879, while living in Sturgeon, with her son, Polk. The November 23rd, 1883 Columbia Statesman reported that Elizabeth, a Boone County resident, was to recieve a government pension.
