J. P. McCollum has a CSA pension application on line under Thomas County in the GA Archives. He says he enlisted in July 1861 in Albany, Ga and served with Company D of Cobb's Legion Cavalry. He surrendered with his unit on April 26, 1865 near Greensboro, N. C. He was first disapproved because he owned property, but he reapplied in 1919 and was approved. See GA Pension record 187836-00383 to read his own words and those of witnesses.
