San Bernardino County First District Supervisor 1917-1920

Son of David A. and Gertrude(Brown)Mulvane.David A.Mulvane was a Captain in the Cicil War. In the mid 1870's the family moved to Princeton,Illinois, where Austin continued his education. They next moved to Topeka, Kansas where his college started with Washburn College and continued with University of Kansas at Lawrence.

In 1892 he married Margaret Bertrand of St.Marys, Kansas, they had four daughters; Margaret, Mary, Virgiline, and Helen all of whom later graduated from the San Bernardino County Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Margaret Mulvaned died in 1907.
Following a short period as a cowpuncher in Clayton, New Mexico, he moved his small family to California, about 1900. In 1904, he helped organize the Consolidated Pacific Cement Plaster company, owning a valuable gypsum deposit at Amboy and named his uncle, John R. and father, David A., as officers in his company which manufactured stucco and gypsum products. He took office January 8, 1917 as County Supervisor and moved to San Bernardino.

After 1920 he served as a Deputy Sheriff, Superior Court Baliff, and then as night jailer in San Bernardino.

October 24, 1924 Swiss born-Gabrielle Tissot, from Chino, married. She had been anurse in France during World War I and was Superintendent of Nurses at San Bernardino County Hospital when they where married.

Retiring, Austin Mulvane died a few years laterat age 91. He was survived by his wife and four daughters, and four grandchildren.
