Merle M. Davis, age 82, of Peachbloom Hill in Berea, died Friday, July 4, 2008 at her home. She was born in Ansted, W. Va. and grew up in Grayson, Ky. She was a member of the Bagby Memorial Methodist Church in Grayson and was a 1947 graduate of the Berea College School of Nursing. She worked many years at the Berea Hospital as a registered nurse. She was the widow of George Davis, Jr.
She is survived by: her children, Rita (Ernest) Hillard of Berea, Jim (Patty) Davis of Berea, Jan (David) Bennett of Berea and Rick (Linda) Davis of Florence, Ky. Also surviving are her grandchildren: J. B. (Wendy) Hillard of Florence, Ky., Matt (Stacy) Hillard of Berea, Amanda Davis of New York, N. Y., Ryan Bennett of Berea and Robby Davis of Florence and her great grandchildren, Hannah and Emma Hillard of Florence and Matthew and Logan Hillard of Berea; brother, John K. Matheson of Dayton, Ohio; sister-in-law, Mina Davis of Berea.
Funeral services for Mrs. Davis will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2008 at the Davis & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. David Grandgeorge and Dr. Ed McCurley officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
