Robert E. McIntire was born in Fleming County, Kentucky, on Feb 18, 1832, to parents: Van S. McIntire, born in Kentucky (1807-1842), and Grace Goodan, born in Indiana (1810-1865). Robert had four brothers and two sisters: Washington I. McIntire (1830-1866), Howard V. McIntire (1834-1912), Sarah Elizabeth Jane McIntire-Scobee (1836-1925), William Garrett McIntire (1839-1859), John Newton McIntire (1840-1865), and Malvina Van McIntire-Peck (1843-1906).
On Oct 18, 1853, in Montgomery County, Kentucky, Robert married Mary Elizabeth Reid (ca 1836-bef 1880) and they settled into a life of farming in Harrison County, Kentucky. Robert and Mary had one daughter Helen/Ellen, born 24 Mar 1857 in Harrison County, who died 31 Jul 1880.
After Mary died, Robert married again to Elizabeth Montgomery, born Mar 1837 in Kentucky, referred to as "cousin" in the census and could be related through the McIntire family, or his first wife's family.
In the Owingsville Outlook, dated Thursday, March 23, 1899, "At his home near here, March 17th, Robert E. McIntire, aged 67 years and one month, from dropsy and other ailments. Left his wife Elizabeth and one adopted daughter, Minnie E. Parker. Member of the Baptist Church. Burial Sunday at the Jones burying ground by Rev. H. F. Martin of the Christian Church."
Robert is buried in the Jones Cemetery with other family members. His first wife Mary also may be buried there, but not recorded. It is reported there are many worn headstones which cannot be read.
