Van had four brothers and three sisters:

Benjamin H. McIntire (1804-1845),
Malvina D. McIntire-Congleton (1808-1878),
Amanda McIntire-Metcalfe (1811-1893),
James McIntire (1813-1866),
Mary McIntire-Tabor (1818-1858), and
George W. McIntire (1821-1865).
Van's father, Major John S. McIntire fought in the Revolutionary War and settled in Bath County after he married in 1800.
On March 10, 1829, Van married Grace Goodan (1810-1865) and they settled into a life of farming and raised seven children:
Washington I. McIntire (1830-1866),
Robert E. McIntire (1832-1899),
Howard V. McIntire (1834-1912),
Sarah Elizabeth Jane McIntire-Scobee (1836-1925),
William Garrett McIntire (1839-1859),
John Newton McIntire (1840-1865), and
Malvina Van McIntire-Peck (1843-1906).
Van died Sep 29, 1842, and was buried in the Jones Cemetery, located in the community of Midland, Bath County, Kentucky, about three miles east of Salt Lick just off US Highway 60. This cemetery should not be confused with some smaller cemeteries in Bath County also called Jones Cemetery.
