A wedding of interest to many of our readers took place at the M.-E. parsonage at Emmettsburg on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, when Miss Belle Martin of Mallard and Claude Winney of Mammoth, California were united in marriage by Rev. Clegg. The couple were attended by Mr. Will Martin and Miss Gertie Martin, brother and sister of the bride. The bride was dressed in a beautiful gown of white satin messaline and net. The groom wore a suit of the conventional black. After the ceremony they returned to the home of the bride's parents where supper was
served to the bridal party and immediate relatives of the family. The bride is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Enos Martin of Mallard. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Winney of Mammoth, Cal. former residents of this locality. The happy couple departed Thursday morning for Omaha and the Black Hills, followed by the well wishes of their many friends.
The Winney Family migrated from Iowa to the Gold towns in the West. Claude had a partner in the gold boom town of Oatman Arizona in it's heyday around 1917. Claude and his family traveled several time back to Iowa and settled in Nevada City CA. There they raised their children, Elsa, Dorthy, Helen, Florence and Earl.
The original purchase agrement from 1928 regarding his home in Nevada City CA. The purchase price was $590 to be paid at not less then $10 per month. Claude and Belle raised their family in Nevada City. Claude worked in the Empire-Star Gold Mines until it was closed in WW2. Claude also supported his family by raising chickens for eggs in the henhouse he had built from scrap lumber from the gold mines.
