Samuel Allen was born on Nov. 25, 1795 (some sources say 1799) near Long Branch, Monmouth County, New Jersey, to Jediah Allen and Anna Williams.
He married Mary G. Taylor on Oct. 6, 1831. They had 4 daughters, only one of whom, Mary Anna Allen, survived to adulthood.
After Mary died in June 1864, he married Martha Gannett (or Garrett?) on Oct. 11, 1866.
He died in Haddonfield, NJ, on April 15, 1879, and is buried next to his first wife, Mary, in Colestown Cemetery.
