Howard Ackley, 24 year old racing driver, was killed in a new car he was trying out on the old Bradford County Fair Grounds track. Deputy Coroner Volney Grenell said Ackley's car went out of control on a turn yesterday, crashed through the fence and plunged into the old fair grounds abandoned hotel building. Howard was driving what now is known as a sprint car. He was a resident of Macedonia,Bradford county, Pennsylvania at the time of his death. Prayer services were held in his home at 1:30 pm then moving to the Wysox church at 2:30 for the final services, handled by Reverend, Lewis Bachman from North Towanda, PA. Burial was in Wysox.
He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II, serving in the Medical Corps.
Survivors include his parents, Harry Byron Ackley (1895-1971) and Louise Minnie Wickwire Ackley (1892-1967). Siblings included Robert R., Harry A., Willard F., Doris M. and Marjorie L. Ackley.
