Junior Christie was born in Welling on April 1, 1929 to William Christie Jr. And Mae (Edwards) Christie. He passed away on June 22, 2009 at his home in welling at the age of 80 years. Junior grew up in the Etta Bend area of Cherokee County. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He had worked as a maintenance person and bus driver for Briggs School. Junior had a love for fishing, gospel music, playing the harmonica and cutting wood.He had a deep love for his family and enjoyed fish frys and the time spent with family and friends. He was a member of the Church of The Lord Jesus Christ where he was baptized 35 years ago. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Mae Christie and brothers Sam and Jess Christie. Junior is survived by his wife, Edith (Deckard) Christie of the home; a son, Tim Christie and wife Karen of Welling; two daughters, Linda Christie of the home; Dana Osburn and husband Brian of Tahlequah; brother, Bobby Christie and wife Betty of Welling; sister, Betty Davis and husband Dale of Tahlequah; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; as well as many friends. Junior will be missed greatly. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday June 25, 2009 in the Green Country Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Brother Vol Woods. Pallbearers will be Mark Washington, Gary Christie, Keith Davis, Kevin Davis, Danny Deckard and Thomas Osburn. Honorary pallbeaers will be Sam Henson, Percy Sellers, Rex Presley and Calvin Gatewood. Interment will follow in The Church of The Lord Jesus Christ Cemetery in Welling under the care of Green Country Funeral Home.
