He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Charles Oscar Gaskill; and three brothers, Richie and Gerald Bogan and Dale Gaskill.
Sidney is survived by three sons, Timothy Bogan, of Newark, Delaware, David Bogan, and his wife, Carolyn Sue, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Paul Bogan, of Rolla, Missouri; three daughters, Beth Snelson, Marcie Bogan, and Rose Bogan, all of Rolla, Missouri; a granddaughter, Casie; a brother, Robert W. Bogan, of Decatur, Indiana; two sisters, Christine Flemming, of Huntington, Indiana, and Ida Sue Maynard, of Milford, Oregon; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana by his mother and stepfather, and then entered the military. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army from August 7, 1967, until July 18, 1969, during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he returned to Indiana for a time and eventually came to Missouri in 1976. He had made his home in Lebanon for the last twenty-six years and owned and operated Madison Shoe Repair for twenty-three years before retiring.
Sidney was raised in the Catholic faith.
In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and riding his motorcycle, but most of his time was spent working, as long as his health allowed.
Sidney was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday June 23, 2009 in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Visitation is Monday evening 7-8:30 pm at the funeral home under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri.
A memorial has been established to the Disabled American Veterans orginzation. Donations may be made through the funeral home.
