Darius Gilbert was born at Pelican Rapids, Otter Tail Co, Minnesota in 1885. He was married in 1911 to Katherine Greybill in Junction City, Kansas. They lived on the farm which later became the Ralph Upham Hatchery. From there, they moved to Kiowa Co, Colorado, where Mabel was born in 1912. Then they moved back to their former home at Junction City, and Hazel was born there in 1914. Later they moved to Portland, Oregon, where Darius had a job in the shipyards.
Katherine became ill with influenza and pneumonia and died the day following the birth of their third daughter, Frances June. Darius' sister Anna, of Nampa, Idaho, adopted Frances. Darius and his two older daughters moved back to Junction City and lived at the County Poor Farm just south of their former home, until 1920, when Darius married Mrs. Melissa (Olds) Fisher. They moved to the McDowell Creek neighborhood where the girls attened Tully School. He died in 1934 after a short illness, at the age of 49.

This information was obtained from the archives of Geary Co. Historical Society and Museums, (Junction City Kansas) Information from Alta McCluskey who probably learned it from Ralph Upham.
