AN OLD VETERAN AT REST

An Esteemed Member of the G.A.R. has Fought His Last Battle

William H. Bennett, a prominent member of Bayard Post No. 8 G.A.R. and an old veteran of many hard fought battles in defence of the Union, has at last laid down his arms, and joined the silent army of departed comrades. He had been a sufferer from heart disease and other serious bodily ailments contracted while on picket duty, sleeping on the damp, cold ground and other exposure. He was a man of tenacious vitality and remained somewhat active until about seven weeks ago when he was taken down. It was thought a week ago that he was getting better but on Friday night change for the worse took place and on Sunday night he passed away painlessly and quiet away in the arms of his wife and a war ___Mr.James Dakin, Sr.
Deceased was in the 51st year of his age. for a number of years he had been a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Broad ST M.E. Church. He leaves a wife and daughter. His funeral will take place from his late residence, 549 S. Broad St, on Thusday, 10:30 A.M. Services will be conducted at the Broad St. M.E. Church. Interment at Groveville, N.J.

Funeral of William H. Bennett

The funeral of William H. Bennett took place from his late residence, 540 S. Broad St., at 10:30 o'clock this morning. Services were also held at the Broad St M.E. Church. Rev. Mr. Willey preached the funeral sermon. Bayrd Post, No 8, G.A.R. of which he was a member attended in a body, and his comrades carried the body to its last resting place in the cemetery at Groveville. Across the casket lay the ensign of liberty and aound it stood the elegant floral pieces which had been sent by relatives and friends.
