Mary Ann "Happy" Robison Powell Downing, passed from this life on June 11, 2009, at the age of 84. Mary Ann was born in Hugo, Oklahoma, on April 7, 1925, to Edgar and Vallie (Fox) Robison, in her grandmother's home which later was replaced by the Choctaw Memorial Hospital. She attended Messer school where her mother was the teacher. She graduated from Hugo High School in 1941. In April, 1944, she took the oath to join the Cadet Corps and was trained at Muskogee General Hospital for her nursing training. She worked in Corpus Christi Naval Air Station. In 1948, Mary Ann started anesthesia school at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and she retired her career as a certified registered nurse aesthesis in 1990. Mary Ann married Max Downing on August 16, 1980. They moved to Durant in 1988 to be near her family. Retirement allowed her to enjoy the loves of her life; being with her family, helping at church, and traveling the world. Mary Ann was a very ethical woman who lived with honor. She believed that when we saw good to do we were to do it. She went out of her way to help others in many quiet ways; from lending them money to taking them in to live with her until they were able to stand on their own. She was passionate about taking care of our earth and being a good ‘caregiver' to the land. Mary Ann was a multi-talented woman who could do anything she decided she wanted to do; from oil painting to home remodeling. Mary Ann was known for her smile and she would light up a room with her presence. Even in her last days her smile was still strong and beautiful. Mary Ann was a member of DaySpring Church in Durant. She will be greatly missed by everyone who's life she touched. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband, Max, of their home in Durant; three daughters, M. Joanna Powell, Vicki Fridle and husband Jim of Durant, and Nicholi Dillow and husband David of Durant; a son, John Harrington and wife Georgia of Ormand Beach, FL; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Services will be graveside June 15, 2009 at 2:00 at Springs Chapel Cemetery.
