Mr. George W. Smith, 81 of Sarasota, Fla., died Monday, May 18, 2009. He was born Sept. 12, 1927. Survivors include wife, Rosemary Smith; sons, Duane Smith, of Cedartown, Steven Smith, of Sarasota, and Richard Smith, of Bradenton, Fla.; daughter, Roseanna Goodman, South Pasadena, Fla.; brothers, Billy Smith, of Rome, Melvin Smith, of Bradenton, and Mike Smith, of Cedartown; sisters, Katherine Short, Shirley Dowdy and Betty Smith, all of Cedartown, Edna Stephens, of Lawrenceville, and Bonnie Laminack, of Muscadine, Ala; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. Services were held Saturday, May 23, at 10 a.m., at Faith Baptist Church, in Sarasota. Interment followed at Palms Memorial Park, Sarasota. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. The Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home made this announcement locally for the family.
