Statement of 1st Lt Jerome C. Serros:
"1st Lt Altman was flying behind me and on my right. I notices that his right engine was smoking so I called him and told him to feather his propeller. There was no answer. Later, I saw a P-38 go down with an engine smoking. I cannot say for sure that this airplane was Lt Altman's."
