M. Elizabeth Stiner Clem 93, Indianapolis, formerly of Anderson, died June 16, 2009 at Altenheim Community, Indianapolis, IN. Born July 25, 1915 in Elwood, IN to parents Lemuel and Clara Mitchell, Elizabeth graduated from Anderson High School in 1933 with academic honors. She retired in 1981 from the Anderson Community Schools. Among her accomplishments, she was elected as the first president of the Secretaries' Association and was secretary to the school board. A lifelong member of East Lynn Christian Church, she served as a valued leader in many areas: teacher, deacon, elder and chair of the board. She served as the chair of an ordination council with the Disciples of Christ. She was a Contact Help telephone volunteer with over 5, 000 hours of service. She is preceded in death by her brother, Robert L. Mitchell and was the widow of Charles Stiner (1966) and Ralph Clem (1991). She is survived by her daughter: Betty (Sid) Sisco and son, Lewis Stiner both of Indianapolis. Granddaughter: Beth (Mike) Carter of Allen, Texas. And grandson, John Hughel of Portland, Oregon; and her three great-grandchildren: Ashley and Emily Carter and Sebastian Hughel. Also surviving, her cousin, Twyla Myers, of Wichita, Kansas; nephews: Kim Mitchell of Anderson, Herb (Ingrid) Templeton of Anderson, Tom (Ginny) Templeton, Wayne ( Linda) Stiner of Indianapolis, Darrell (Mary) Stiner of Stevensville, MI and niece: Martha (Mike) Uberta of Indianapolis. Mona (Steve) Vannatter of Lexington, Kentucky, Gary (Diana) Clem of Goshen, Kentucky and their families, as well as her special friend, Rebecca Bunton of Wichita, Kansas also survive. Elizabeth's family sincerely thanks the entire staff of the Altenheim Community for their compassionate care. Visitation will be from 3:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday, June 19, 2009 at the Robert D. Loose Funeral Home & Crematory; South Chapel, 200 West 53rd Street and one hour prior to the service at the church. Services will be 2pm Saturday, June 20, 2009, at East Lynn Christian Church, 522 East 53rd Street, Anderson with Rev. Susan Cameron officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson.
