Colonel Horace Gabriel Cude, AUS Retired, born October 18, 1927 in Galveston, Texas went to be with the Lord on May 22, 2009 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

The Colonel was a highly decorated military veteran from 1945 through 1981. His decorations include: the C.I.B., Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal and various other medals and awards. He also retired from the City of Houston Public Works Department, was a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Military Officers Association of America.

Horace was preceded in death by Carolyn, his loving and precious wife of 61 years, daughter, Shirley; parents, TB and Lucy Cude and numerous brothers. Horace was the seventh of ten sons. He is survived by son, Darwin and wife Margie Cude; daughter, Susan and husband Michael Luycx; daughter, Carol and husband Joe Santos; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a special sister-in-law, Lena Cude and numerous nieces and nephews.

A very special thanks from the family to Ella Marto who helped provide loving care and comfort and to Vitas Hospice Care.

The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Earthman Resthaven. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 28, 2009 in the Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.
