Cas was said to be a wealthy farmer in Indiana before he entered the life the widow Martha Howell Jackson and the Jackson Family. In 1900 Cass Farthing, age 44 and wife Martha are living in Indian Territory, Chickasaw, next door to Joshua J. Jackson and family. Cass and his parents were born in IN. His birth date is listed as Mar 1856. He is working as a farmer.
In 1910 Cas and Martha are living on Second Street in Sasakwa Township, Seminole Co., OK. He is 54 years old, has been married for 18 years and is working as a photographer for his own business. Cas took many of the family photographs that are cherished today.
A newspaper article (no date or newspaper name given) explains the grief Cas had over the illness and pending death of his wife, "Brooding Over Illness Of Wife Blamed For Suicide Act of Aged Recluse Here". The article said "...Cas told neighbors that he did not want to live a minute after his wife had breathed her last." William M. Jackson's granddaughter said that Caswell stood in the door of Martha's bedroom thinking that she was dead and shot himself in the mouth. William said that he literally could not bear the thought of living without her. However, she was not dead but did die a few days (five days) later.
