The name later was spelled Brundage. The inventory of 27 Oct.1639 listed widow Rachel and five children: two older girls, a boy, and two younger girls, all under 16 years. An original unrecorded deed was dated 20 May 1639, and was witnessed by Andrew Ward, Edmund Wood, and Robert Rose, but was not signed by the grantor John Brundish; the second part of this deed, dated 23 Nov. 1639, is a confirmation given by the widow as Administration, and states 'but Providence so disposing of the aforesayd John Brundishe that before the tym that the mony was due & ye writing (?) confermed He put an end unto his lyf.' (Some researchers believe that this statement shows that John Brundish committed suicide. Another reading of this, however, could indicate that the "He", with the letter "h" being capitalized, points back to "Providence", or God, putting an end to John Brundish's life, as suggested to Elizabeth Stuerke in an email from Alec Purdy in 2001.) The widow Rachel m. Anthony Wilson of Fairfield, about 5 Aug. 1642. A probate record in Fairfield mentions that date. At Rachel's death, Anthony Wilson was to have the home lot in Fairfield that was Rachel Brundish's and to pay legacies to the children, named as John Brundish, Mary wife of Francis Purdy, Bethia Brundish and Posthume. The tanner's tools had been sold, and son John was to have the money.
John Brundish, the first immigrant, came from County Suffolk, England, to Massachusetts around 1632. He had been christened 5 June 1593 at Rattlesden Parish in County Suffolk, England, and came from Felsham Parish to Massachusetts ca. 1632. He was a tanner, was made a freeman at Watertown 1635, and died between 20 May and 27 Oct 1639 in Wethersfield, Connecticut.

John was a son of Thomas Brundish and Agnes Tompson who were married in 1584 at Rattlesden. John married, in 1621, at Belstead Parish, Rachel Hubbard, born ca 1600, Mendlesham, County Suffolk, and who died 1656-59. She was the daughter of James and Naomi (Cook/Cocke) Hubbard.

Rachel married 2) (in 1642) Anthony Wilson.

They were the parents of Sarah Wilson.

John Brundish died without a will; his estate was valued at £174 in chattels and £130 in house and land. The chattels included books as well as tools. Rachel was granted the chattels and the real estate was to be for the children's portion when they reached sixteen. The land was sold before May 1641, which was probably about the time that Rachel moved from Wethersfield to Fairfield.
