Myrtle Pacificia JAYNE Reed is the daughter of Henry Turner Jayne.

Myrtle married James Alfred Reed on February 14, 1899.

Galena Womans Suicide
Since the death of her baby a few years ago, Mrs. Myrtle Reed, of Galena, 31 years old, had been despondent and in ill health. The loss of the child weighed upon her mind until her friends pitied her.
Mrs. Reed's second attempt to end her life was successful yesterday. While alone in her home at No. 1209 Princeton avenue, she swallowed a half ounce of carbolic acid. Death resulted in less than half an hour.
Shortly after the baby's death, Mrs. Reed, apparently temporarily insane, went to the cemetery here where it was buried and exhumed the body. For a long time she sat beside the grave and coddled the little form. Then she reburied it.
This action was followed by an attempt to commit suicide. Mrs. Reed drank a quantity of laudanum, but her life was saved by the timely application of antidotes and restoratives.
While her husband, James A. Reed, was at the rear of the home yesterday cutting wood, Mrs. Reed called for her young son, Clyde. Knowing that the boy was not at home, Mr. Reed answered the summons. He found Mrs. Reed lying across a divan partially unconscious. Despite prompt medical attention she died in a few minutes.
In a tablet was found a letter addressed to Mr. Reed. It had been written Saturday. In it Mrs. Reed asserted that she was tired of life and wanted to die. She blamed no one for her condition, but said the future appeared dreary to her.
Mrs. Reed was born in Missouri in 1880. She was married thirteen years ago and then moved to Galena. Besides her husband and son, Clyde, a daughter, Miss Mary, a sister, Mrs. Lena J. Wright, and her mother, Mrs. M. L. Hancock survive. Mrs. Wright lives in Webb City, Mo
