Loretta was born in 1895 in Kodyc, Poland to Joseph and Mary Nowakowski. She came to the United States in 1912, she arrived in Philadelphia, PA. She later met and then married Casimir Dobrowolski on July 4th, 1915 in St. Hedwig's Church. She gave birth to three children in Pennsylvania, Victoria, Joseph, and Helen. The family moved to Newark, NJ sometime between 1920 and 1921. There Loretta gave birth to seven more children, Stanley, Chester, Edward, Michael, Marie, Bertha, and Loretta (in that order.) Michael, Marie, and Bertha died as babies. After giving birth to her tenth child she became very weak. She loved the outdoors and would often walk the streets of Newark. Loretta recalls that on Christmas eve when she was able she used to travel the Jewish Delicatessen in Newark and get Herring for Christmas dinner. She suffered a stroke sometime in the early 1940s. She remained confined to her home in Newark for the later days of her life. She suffered two more strokes before passing away in 1947. Before she died she became a grandmother to Patricia, the child of her oldest daughter Victoria.
