Her family would emmigrate to Scotland during the Irish famine years when Mary Ann was a young girl. They settled in the parish of New Monkland in Scotland.
She married Michael Gilmartin(1836-1901) a coalminer, on February 16, 1860 at St. Margaret's Church, Hallcraig Street in Airdrie, Scotland.
They would have 7 children together all born in Airdrie: Margaret, Thomas, Patrick, John, Michael and Helen.
Mary Ann died on December 10, 1910 and was laid to rest on January 1, 1911 with her husband Michael and their son Thomas who died June 12, 1904 all are buried in the same Lair.
Also buried in the same grave are the following: John A. Cannon, Mary A. Cannon, Catherine Cannon,
James Cannon.
All are laid to rest together in the Catholic cemetery, Saint Joseph Cemetery, Dykeshead Road, Ardrie, Scotland.
