EDENTON - Margaret Darden Bunting, 81, of the 1800 block of Arapahoe Trail, died Friday, June 1, 2001, in her home.
Mrs. Bunting was born in Portsmouth, the daughter of the late Leondis Polk and Mittie Warren Darden. She was a retired management analyst in the engineering division of Norfolk Naval Shipyard. She was a charter member and former organist of Bandon Chapel Church, a former secretary and vice president of the Fifth Naval District Supervisors Association, a member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 966, The Order of the Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary, a charter member of the Chowan County Shrinettes and for 10 years wrote the column ''Maggie B'' for the Chowan Herald Newspaper in Edenton.
Preceded in death by her husband, Henry Truston Bunting in December of 2000, she is survived by three sons, William T. Bunting and David C. Bunting, both of Chesapeake and Paul T. Bunting of Auburn, N.Y.; a sister, Miriam K. Arnold of Eclipse, Va.; three brothers, Dan Darden, Roy Darden and Marion Darden, all of Chesapeake; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Bandon Chapel Church by the Rev. E.L. Earnhardt. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Evergreen Memorial Park, Portsmouth. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday in Miller Funeral Home, Edenton. Memorial contributions may be made to Bandon Chapel Church, Edenton, NC 27932.

Married to Trus (also deceased), Margaret died in her sleep at the age of 81. The Darden Family is a prominent country and western, gospel, hillbilly group in the eastern part of Virginia. Margaret was preceded in death by her father, Col. Polk Darden, and her mother, Mittie Darden (who were a 3rd generation of family musicians), and her brother, Leon. Her brother, Willie, died in Jan. 2002. Brothers Roy and Dan survived Margaret, but they are now deceased. Sister, Miriam (Suzi Arden Syme) survives.
